Case Studies

Delivering 132kV Terminal Structure & EHV Earthing Works for Winkburn Solar Farm

Challenge

  • Working adjacent to live 132kV overhead lines.
  • Managing and maintaining strict adherence to environmental controls with the ancient woodland bordering the site.
  • Delivering works within a reduced working footprint.
  • All works had to be delivered using made-to-order components.

Solution

To mitigate ground and environmental risks, we installed trackway to protect the land and maintain safe access. Our specialist EHV team then:

  • Assembled and dressed the four-pole terminal structure with cable sealing ends and surge arrestors.
  • Installed foundations and GS6 compliance measures
  • Delivered earthing works including 2no. bonding connections to the new substation
  • Coordinated daily with multiple contractors and NGED
  • Applied strict environmental controls due to proximity to ancient woodland
  • Ensured all activities complied fully with the approved RAMS

Outcome

  • Completed four-pole terminal structure and earthing installation on time and within budget
  • Fully compliant with NGED adoption standards
  • Safe delivery despite wet conditions and environmental sensitivities
  • All works completed and ready for NGED to undertake the non‑contestable tower connection
